Quick answer
Confirm the accommodation and arrival arrangements, then check the separate requirements for residence, work and address registration. Housing does not itself resolve those administrative questions.
Organise arrival before travel
Appoint the company contact, arrival date and key collection process. Plan for late arrival or travel changes. Residents should know where they are going and whom to call before departing.
Align the agreed occupants without collecting unnecessary documents. Initial enquiries normally need operational requirements. Collect information for formal processes through the appropriate procedure and share only with authorised recipients.
Check the property and actual living conditions
Employers or contracting clients providing accommodation for foreign workers must meet applicable minimum housing and hygiene standards. Check the specific property and occupancy; “suitable for workers” is not enough evidence.
Consider cooking, washing work clothes, privacy and rest between shifts as well as compliance. Explain the room layout and shared spaces so expectations match reality.
Address registration and residence permission are separate
eUprava lists rental or subletting agreements among evidence of the right to reside at an address, along with other evidence such as owner consent. Check the appropriate evidence and procedure for the particular person.
GOV.SI also explains the importance of lawful residence status. Accommodation does not automatically settle every administrative question. Confirm who registers, the applicable deadline and competent authority. Identify the right to use the address, work and residence position, responsible person and evidence of completion.
Make instructions understandable
Provide concise instructions about keys, heating, waste, laundry, internet and faults. Translate or assist where needed. Check understanding, rather than simply handing over a document.
Explain agreed charges and payment contacts. If a company charges employees for accommodation or provides it as a benefit, check employment and tax treatment separately. This guide does not set rules for wage deductions.
Handle changes as they arise
When occupants change, check the agreement and administrative steps. Permits, registrations and signed statements do not automatically transfer to another person. Changed occupancy may require another housing assessment.
At departure, arrange handover, keys and payments and check address procedures. Residents should keep their identity documents; organising accommodation does not require retaining them. Use the official bodies linked below for unclear questions.
Frequently asked questions
Does a rental agreement also settle work permission?
No. Use of premises, address registration and the right to reside and work are separate. Check the relevant conditions with the competent authorities.
Who registers temporary residence?
Responsibility depends on the accommodation arrangement and the person’s status. Consult GOV.SI or eUprava for the specific case rather than assuming the owner always does it.
What should a resident receive before arrival?
A confirmed address, arrival instructions, contact person, key arrangements and understandable information on living conditions and costs.
